What information can photo metadata contain?

EXIF is metadata that a camera or smartphone can store inside an image. It may include the device manufacturer and model, capture date and time, camera settings, lens information and other technical details.

If location tagging is enabled on the device, a photo may also contain GPS coordinates showing where it was taken.

Why remove EXIF and GPS before sharing photos?

Metadata is useful for organizing photos, but when an image is shared it may reveal more information than expected. Exact GPS coordinates are particularly sensitive.

EXIF Privacy Suite lets you inspect a file first and then remove all metadata or only its location information.

HEIC and HEIF images

HEIC and HEIF are used by modern smartphones, including Apple devices. They provide efficient image compression but are not supported by every website or application.

The dedicated converter can turn HEIC or HEIF files into JPG. When processing multiple images, the results can be downloaded together as a ZIP archive.

Frequently asked questions

How the tools work

Are images uploaded to a server?

No. The current image-processing tools perform their work locally in your browser.

Can I remove GPS while keeping other EXIF data?

Yes. Use the dedicated GPS removal tool for that.

Can I view GPS coordinates on a map?

If readable GPS metadata is present, EXIF Viewer can display the coordinates and a map.

Is HEIC supported?

Yes. HEIC/HEIF are supported by the applicable tools, and the dedicated converter can export them as JPG.
